ON TO WISCONSIN!

Road Game for CRC After Loss to Lions

The Griffins-CRC developmental squad will take on a Wisconsin select side at the Wisconsin rugby facility Saturday April 18.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the east pitch of the facility, located at 448 Clark St. in Cottage Grove, a few miles east of Madison.

The Wisconsin selects will include players from around the state, including Green Bay, Milwaukee, Eau Claire and Oshkosh.  Although billed as a match against the Griffins, Wisconsin will be facing CRC players from the Griffins, Condors and Silverbacks as Head Coach Drew Suniula gives new and upcoming players experience against tough competition.

The test match will cap a day of rugby at the playing grounds where teams will compete in the Wisconsin Cup which begins at 11 a.m.

The CRC squad faced a tough side in a match against the Chicago Lions April 12 with the Lions running up the score 91-7. The game was played in sketchy weather conditions.

“It was cloudy and gusty with winds blowing laterally the entire match,” said Old Boy Angelo Manlapaz. “CRC wore the blue and orange jerseys. The Lions wore black. There were a few chippy moments and although the CRC didn’t get the win, they fought hard until the very end.”

Many thanks to Angelo, Chawn White, Charlie Byrne, Connor Flynn, Brendan Brown and all other old boys who attended.

The game was a prequel to the Chicago Hounds-California Legion match which the Hounds won 48-24 at Seat Geek Stadium. Griffin veterans on the Hounds team included Koby Baker, Mark O’Keeffe, and Jackson Zabierek.  The Hounds also beat Anthem in the season opener, 33-19.
