Effort vs Wisconsin

_{The CRC-Griffins development team played well against an experienced Wisconsin select side April 18, but came up short in the end, losing 34-10.}

Head Coach Drew Suniula commended the squad, composed of Griffins, Condors and Silverbacks, for a good showing against a high level opponent. His comments: 

  “The Wisconsin selects game presented its own challenges with a lot of unavailability plus the travel factor. However, the 17 guys that fronted represented themselves well in Madison from their commitment to travel and also to compete. It was a great outing and experience for the D2 and D3 boys who don’t normally play consistently at this level. 

“Outstanding performances came from Brian Flamenco (hooker) and Ethan WIlson (flanker).  A promising prospect is Fernando Valenzuela who’s come through the Silverbacks-CRC and has had great outings this spring, showing strong ball carrying and off-loading ability in the forward pack. 

“Overall, a gutsy effort from the guys who competed all the way until the end, showing glimpses of positive rugby promotion.”

Drew also wanted to correct some inaccuracies from the CRC match against the Chicago Lions. 

“Extra time was added on to the end of the game to give players extra playing time which included additional scores from both teams. It seems the Lions extra scores were added, but not the CRC scores. The CRC team wore the blue and orange jerseys of the Condors, not the Griffin colors as was posted on some social media platforms. However, the D3 and D2 CRC players gained invaluable experience in playing against top level competition.”

CRC and Griffins To Take On Aviators

The CRC development squad will meet the Ohio Aviators Rugby Academy team Saturday, May 2, in Indianapolis in the final test match of the spring season.

Kick off is scheduled for 11 a.m. EST at Kuntz Stadium. 

The Aviators will field Ohio selects and academy players. 

Kuntz Stadium is busy that weekend, hosting the College Rugby Association of America championship playoffs May 1-3.
