Tough Loss in Detroit

‍

The Chicago Griffins have a bye week after a tough road trip against the Detroit Tradesmen Sept. 26.

The Griffins lost 33-12 as Detroit jumped to first place in the D1 Midwest Premiership League standings. The loss dropped the Griffins to fifth place in the increasingly competitive league.

The bye weekend will give the Griffins a chance to regroup and prepare for another long road trip on Oct. 10 to play the Pittsburgh Forge. The other Chicago Rugby Club men’s teams also have the weekend off.

But there will be exciting rugby action at Red Lobster Stadium Saturday. CRC will host a collegiate doubleheader beginning at noon. DePaul University RFC will play University of Illinois-Chicago RFC followed by Iowa RFC vs. Purdue RFC at 2 p.m.

This is an opportunity for the Griffins and CRC to meet and greet future Midwest rugby players and spread the word about the Chicago Rugby Club and its influence in the rugby nation.

‍Other Midwest rugby scores from Sept. 26:

Blaze 71, Metropolis 5;  Cincinnati 40, Pittsburgh Forge 12; Lions 59, St. Louis Bombers 19.

The Griffins will have another road trip on Oct. 10 to play the Pittsburgh Forge in a Midwest Premiership League match.

Meanwhile, the CRC’s Northshore Rugby Club will play the Chicago Lions in a women’s D1 match Saturday at the Blaze Rugby facility with an 11 a.m. kickoff. North Shore won the women’s Midwest Premiership championship last year and is in a battle for the title this year. The club lost to the Lions in a September match, 10-7, so this could be a payback match for North Shore. Go North Shore!

‍Save the Date!

The inimitable Morgan Nichols will headline the Griffins Oct. 24 match against the Cincinnati Wolfhounds by hosting his fabled pig roast.

The Griffins will celebrate it as the annual homecoming match, inviting all Old Boys, family and friends to partake. There will be plenty of great food, great friends and great rugby.  Stay tuned for further information.
