It’s Down to the Wire!
There’s only a few days left to throw your hat in the ring!
The 2026 Bud Skuba Memorial Golf Cart 500 is this weekend and there’s still time to go to Chicagogriffins.com and reserve your spot.
The $125 fee gets you 18 holes of golf at the beautiful Arboretum Golf Club with cart, a hale and hearty 19th watering hole, and the opportunity to regale your Griffin buddies with stories of rugby glory. There will be prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive and most balls lost. And a 50/50 raffle.
For $300, you can still sponsor a hole as Curt Hacker has done for American Rugby Outfitters. Check out the sign he will have on the course that will advertise his ARO company, it’s a beauty shown below. The sponsorship includes your round of golf and sincere gratitude from the Griffins.
If you can’t make it, please consider sponsoring a player. The golf outing kicks off the start of the fall season for the Griffins and provides financial support for team expenses in the highly competitive D1 Midwest Premiership League. The club opens its season Saturday, Aug. 22, against its old rival Detroit Tradesmen at Red Lobster Stadium.
Don’t wait! Don’t hesitate! Don’t procrastinate!

Griffins Gather to Celebrate Russ Sage
Dozens of Griffins are expected to attend the Celebration of Life for Old Boy Russell Sage Saturday, Aug. 15. His wife, Tracy, and son, Logan, are hosting the gathering at Hackney’s Restaurant in Glenview beginning at 2 p.m.
The occasion is not meant to be somber, but a fond and funny remembrance of Russell, a true Griffin character from his playing days when he invented such memorable things as “Music Depreciaton Night.” It’s a long story but it might be shared on Saturday.
Russell died in April after a long battle with MDS, a leukemia-like blood disorder. Tracy and Logan will be greeting Griffins as well as Russell’s many friends and family members. The restaurant is at 1514 E. Lake Ave, Glenview, just east of Waukegan Road, and has plenty of free parking.
