A Close One in Pittsburgh;
Impalas Come to Red Lobster

A tough fight against the Pittsburgh Forge on the road led to a close match in the Midwest Premiership League Oct. 10.

The Chicago Griffins put up a great game but were edged by the Forge, 28-24 at the final whistle. The game sets up a return home for the Griffins against the Indianapolis Impalas Oct. 17 at Red Lobster Stadium with a kickoff set for 1 p.m. in another crucial match for both teams. The Impalas are coming off a 31-15 win against Cincinnati.

Brendan “BB” Brown, Griffins president, praised the team that traveled to Pennsylvania and noted that although it was a loss, the Griffins added two points to league standings.“

It was really hard fought, but kind of crazy game,” BB reported. “It was very close to being an outright victory.  Great job by the team on the road with lots of young guys stepping up again.”

The Griffins have struggled to maintain a full 23 player roster on road trips this season and have taken the field with only one reserve in a recent match.  The problem reveals how difficult it can be to assemble a full D1 squad for long, long road trips. But BB said the Forge match ended the away games for the regular season and there was an upside to it.

“Keeps us in good position for playoffs if we hold firm the next two weeks at home,” he said.

The club is planning a homecoming extravaganza for the Oct. 24 match against Cincinnati featuring an awesome pig roast compliments of Old Boy Morgan Nichols. This is shaping up to be a match you don’t want to miss.  All Old Boys, family and friends are invited.  A 1 p.m. kickoff at Red Lobster Stadium is tentatively scheduled.  Free admission, plenty of free parking and many friends in the stadium!
