Griffins On Road to Pittsburgh

Following a week off, the Chicago Griffins RFC will hit the road to take on the Pittsburgh Forge Saturday, Oct. 10.

The road to Pittsburgh is always a difficult one and this season has seen the Forge playing a vastly improved game since the 2025 season when the club tied the Griffins in Pittsburgh 31 all, but then lost to the Griffins 89-12 in Chicago. The Forge also lost a match to the Detroit Tradesmen that season, 80-0.

Saturday’s match comes at a critical time for the Griffins, currently in 7th place in Midwest Premiership League standings with a 2-3 record with three games left in the regular season. The Forge is currently in 4th place and defeated the Griffins 34-26 in a match at Red Lobster Stadium Sept. 19.

The Forge apparently is enjoying some renewed confidence and skill following the club’s spring tour to England and Scotland where the men’s side won two matches. The tour included a women’s team which had a loss and a tie.

The road to Pittsburgh is a long one – close to 500 miles and a 7 hour drive – but for those who may be in the neighborhood or want to make the trek, kickoff is 1 p.m. central time at Phillip-Murray Field, 700 Mountain Ave., Pittsburgh. The pitch is about a half mile west of the Monongahela  River, an historic waterway.

In other Chicago Rugby Club news, the North Shore women’s team lost to the Chicago Lions women, 30-12.  Other Oct. 3 scores: Blaze 29, Bombers 21; Detroit 34, Cincinnati 22; Forge 36, Impalas 10; Lions 28, Blues 0.
